Halifax MBNA?

Is Halifax MBNA? Are Halifax and MBNA linked?

Halifax MBNAThese Halifax MBNA questions are questions that we have seen on many occasions over recent months here at 0% Credit Card Expert.

Many UK credit card customers have been looking for an answer to this Halifax MBNA question. This very often occurs when customers are starting to think about applying for a new 0% credit card to make a 0% balance transfer or to take advantage of the 0% introductory offer on purchases.

There are two main reasons that many credit card customers would like to know the answer to these Halifax and MBNA linked questions:-

  1. Many customers understand that you can not make a balance transfer between two credit cards that are owned by the same company
  2. Some credit card companies also will not allow a customer to have another credit card from that company if they already have an existing credit card with the same company

Halifax MBNA?

So is Halifax MBNA? Are Haliafx and MBNA linked?

The answer to the above questions are that Halifax and MBNA are currently separate companies.

All of the current Halifax credit cards are now issued by Bank of Scotland Plc with all current MBNA credit cards issued by MBNA Limited.

Lloyds Banking Group, the ultimate owner of Halifax, in December 2016 announced that they planned to purchase MBNA. This transaction completed in June 2017. However, it is not yet clear how this will ultimately effect the relationship between Halifax and MBNA credit cards.

The following popular current featured credit cards will all allow balance transfers from both Halifax and MBNA credit cards:-

Back in 2007 Halifax sold and then transferred some of it’s existing credit card accounts over to MBNA. This is part of the reason that some credit card customers may be unsure about a possible Halifax MBNA relationship.

The credit cards that were transferred across to MBNA from the Halifax were charity and affinity credit cards. These cards formed only a very small part of the Halifax credit card business.

Customers of these transferred credit card accounts were reissued with a new MBNA credit card after the transfer. These new account numbers replaced their existing Halifax credit card. None of the main Halifax branded credit cards were ever sold or transferred over to MBNA.

So in summary, the answer to the Halifax MBNA question, is that there is no link between the two credit card companies, currently although this may eventually change after the MBNA takeover by Lloyds.
