Halifax MBNA?

Is MBNA Halifax? Are Halifax and MBNA linked? Is MBNA part of Halifax?

Halifax MBNA

These questions are all common questions that we have seen regularly, over recent months.

Now, many more UK credit card customers are looking for an answer to these MBNA Halifax related questions.

This usually occurs when customers are starting to think about applying for a new 0% credit card.

Customers very often look for a new card, to make a 0% balance transfer, or to take advantage of the 0% introductory offer on purchases.

There are two of the main reasons that many credit card customers would like to know the answer to the questions listed above, are Halifax and MBNA linked?

Many more UK customers, now understand that you can not make a balance transfer between two credit cards that are issued by the same card company.

In addition, some companies will not allow a customer to have another credit card from the same company, if they already have one of their existing credit cards.

Is MBNA Part Of Halifax?

So are Halifax and MBNA linked?

The answer to the above question is that Halifax and MBNA are, at the moment, separate companies. However, both companies are now owned by Lloyds Banking Group.

All of the current Halifax credit cards are issued by Bank of Scotland Plc. All current MBNA credit cards issued by MBNA Limited.

Lloyds Banking Group is the ultimate owner of Halifax and Bank of Scotland. Lloyds Banking Group purchased MBNA Limited in June 2017. However, it is still not yet clear how this will ultimately effect the relationship between Halifax and MBNA credit cards over the longer term. Although one result has been a large reduction in the number of cards issued by MBNA in the UK.

The following popular featured credit cards will all allow balance transfers from both Halifax and MBNA credit cards:-

Are MBNA And Halifax Linked?

Back in 2007, Halifax sold and then transferred some of it’s existing credit card accounts. These cards went to MBNA Europe Limited. This is part of the reason that some UK credit card customers may be unsure about any possible Halifax MBNA relationship.

The credit cards that were transferred across from the Halifax, were charity and affinity credit cards. These cards formed only a very small part of the overall Halifax credit card business.

Customers of these transferred credit card accounts were reissued with a new MBNA credit card after the transfer. These new account numbers replaced their existing Halifax credit card. None of the main Halifax branded credit cards were ever sold or transferred over.

So in summary, the answer to the Halifax MBNA question, is that currently there is no direct link between the two credit card companies. This may well change in the future as the MBNA takeover by Lloyds Banking Group is fully integrated.
