High Limit Credit Cards

What are the most suitable high limit credit cards in the UK, in 2021? Can you get a credit card with a £20,000 limit in the UK? Is there a maximum credit card limit in the UK?

High limit credit cards are very often defined as those 0% credit cards, which offer new customers, a higher credit limit.

Many UK customers, when they first apply for their new credit card, would like to get an initial high credit limit.

Customers are usually looking for credit cards with high limits, for one of the following two reasons:-

  • You have a large outstanding balance on your current credit card. As a result, you would like to make a balance transfer to a new credit card. This will allow you to benefit from any 0% introductory offer on balance transfers.
  • You would like to make one, or more, higher value purchases, using this new credit card. This will allow you to benefit from any 0% introductory offer on purchases.

In both of the above cases, the credit card customer will need to be given a higher credit card limit. A large credit card limit allows a customer to make a larger purchase with their card. Alternatively, they could make a bigger balance transfer using their card.

The credit card companies have generally tended to be more cautious with their lending, ever since the banking crisis, back in 2008. This has meant that, for many customers, initial credit card limits have tended to be lower, than in the years before the banking crisis began.

With the current Coronavirus crisis, the credit card companies are in general, now more cautious with their lending. The card acceptance rates for customers, as well as credit limits, are now both likely to be lower. Additional 0% credit card offers for existing customers are also likely to be greatly reduced in numbers.

However, we have often seen that some credit card companies can still be more generous with their credit limits, than certain other card companies.
