High Limit Credit Cards

High Limit Credit Cards

What are the most suitable high limit credit cards in the UK, in 2024? Can you get a credit card with a £20,000 limit in the UK, for example? What is the highest credit card limit in the UK?

These are all very common questions that we see regularly on this topic.

Credit cards with high limits are most often defined as those 0% cards, which offer new customers, a higher than average credit limit.

Many UK customers, when they first apply for their new credit card, would like to get an initial high credit limit. Very often customers are looking for credit cards with high limits, for one of the following two reasons:-

  • You have a large outstanding balance on your current credit card. As a result, you would like to make a balance transfer to a new credit card. This will allow you to benefit from any 0% introductory offer on balance transfers.
  • You would like to make one large purchase, or perhaps several higher value purchases, using your new credit card. This will allow you to benefit from any 0% introductory offer on purchases.

In both of the above cases, to make your large transfer, or purchase, you will need to be given a higher credit card limit. This could be a credit card with a £5000 limit. Or even a credit card with a £10000 limit, for example. This kind of large credit limit does allow you to make larger purchases with your new credit card. Alternatively, you could make a bigger balance transfer, from one or more of your existing cards, to your new credit card.

The credit card companies have generally tended to be more cautious with their lending. This has been the case ever since the banking crisis, back in 2008. This has meant that, for many customers, initial credit card limits have tended to be lower, than in the years before the banking crisis began.

With the recent Coronavirus crisis, the credit card companies are in general, now overall more cautious with their lending. The number of customers accepted for new cards, as well as the credit limits, are now both likely to be lower. Additional 0% credit card offers for existing customers are also likely to be greatly reduced in numbers.

However, we have often seen that some credit card companies can still be more generous with their credit limits. All of the following featured credit cards, in our experience, are most likely to be suitable for customers looking for UK high limit credit cards:-

Credit Cards With High Limits

Customers are more likely to be accepted for any of the above high credit limit credit cards, when they can successfully meet all of the application criteria that the credit card company is looking for.

Are you a customer looking to apply for any of the highest credit card limit cards? Then, it is important that you take extra care with the online application form, whilst you are applying.

Any mistakes that you make on the application form, are more likely to lead to your application being declined. This failure, may then in turn further reduce your prospects of successfully applying for any other 0% credit cards with high limits.

The UK credit cards, featured above, are higher limit cards which do not currently, charge a customer any annual fee, for use of the card

Credit Card With £20000 Limit UK

Can you get a credit card with a £20,000 limit in the UK? Is a high credit limit like this very common, in 2024?

Well it is possible to get a limit this high, but only for a very, very small number of customers. These customers would generally, have very high annual incomes. However, a large credit card limit like this, is quite a rare occurrence in today’s market.

Currently, the average credit limit for one of the largest UK credit card companies, is a rather lower figure of just £4000. As you can see, that is quite a bit lower than a credit card with a £20,000 limit.

Your actual credit limit is decided by the credit card company. The limit is based only on their lending criteria and the information provided by you on the application form. This is then combined with the information held about you, by a credit reference agency.

Maximum Credit Card Limit UK?

Is there a maximum credit card limit in the UK? If so, does this restrict the size of the credit limit a customer will be given?

We often see customers looking for answers about the highest credit card card limit you can get in the UK. In theory, there is no maximum credit card limit in the UK.

If you already have a number of credit cards with high limits, then this may reduce the maximum credit card limit you can obtain on any new UK card. The credit card companies do tend to be wary of any one individual having too much credit available to them, in relation to their overall income.

Credit cards with high limits are not as common in the UK credit card market, as they once were. However, they do still happen. We still see customers given a higher than average credit limit, when applying for a new credit card.

Most 0% credit cards in the UK, including the Marks and Spencer credit card, for example are currently issued as MasterCard credit cards. There are also a smaller number of cards available, that are issued as Visa credit cards in the UK.

High limit credit cards, are however, available as both Visa and MasterCard issued credit cards. The choice of payment network that the card company uses, makes no difference to the size of the credit limit you are given. This is purely down to your own financial circumstances.
