Tesco Credit Card

Tesco Credit Card Deals

What are the current Tesco credit card offers? Who owns Tesco credit card? These are both common questions that we see on a regular basis.

Tesco Bank used to offer a wide range of 0% cards to UK customers. However, in recent years the number of 0% introductory card offers, from Tesco Bank, have been significantly reduced.

This is partly a result of the current economic circumstances, and the recent Coronavirus pandemic. However, this is also a result of parent company Tesco Plc, having decided to scale back it’s focus on growing the bank.

Tesco Credit Card Deals

Currently there are a very limited number of Tesco credit card deals with 0% offers. These are available for customers who are looking for 0% introductory deals on balance transfers. However, there are no current Tesco credit card offers available for customers looking for 0% introductory deals on purchases.

Customers will very often use a card with a 0% purchase offer, to make a higher value purchase. The above Marks and Spencer credit card, for example, has one of the longest 0% introductory offers available on purchases. You can use a card to pay for any large purchase. With the 0% offer, you can then pay off the amount in monthly instalments.

Who Owns Tesco Credit Card?

The original Tesco Personal Finance was a joint venture owned 50/50 by Tesco Plc and Royal Bank of Scotland. However, Tesco Plc took then full control by purchasing Royal Bank of Scotland’s 50% share of the joint venture. This happened back in December 2008.

It was then announced in February of this year that Barclays had purchased the credit cards, loans and savings business from Tesco. The purchase has still has to be approved by the financial regulators in the UK. This is expected to be completed in the second half of this year. It is also not yet clear what this deal will mean for the many Tesco credit card existing customers.

There two common reasons why many customers want to know, who owns Tesco credit card?

If you are applying for a new 0% credit card and looking to make a balance transfer, then you need to know who provides your new credit card. This is because you can not transfer a balance from one credit card to another, which is owned by the same credit card provider.

Similarly if you are applying for a new card to make purchases, then you also need to know who owns your new credit card. This is because many UK card companies will only allow you to have one of their credit cards at any one time.

Mastercard, and Visa, provide the payment processing for most UK credit cards. Cards issued using either Mastercard, or Visa, are widely accepted at millions of locations around the world.
